OCAPL March 2025 President's Letter

I hope you all had an amazing spring break! As we get back into the swing of things, we’re excited about all the upcoming events and activities we have planned.

We’re kicking off the spring season with our Spring Field Landman Seminar, which will take place on Thursday, April 3rd, at River Oaks Golf Club. Jeremy Melton from Trimble Law Group, PLLC, will lead a session on the Statute of Frauds, what defines a binding contract, and best practices for negotiating with mineral owners. Additionally, Robert Duran from Rubrica Consultants, LLC, will present on "Landman, Cure Thyself: Curative Approaches to Title Clouds and Other Ownership Issues."

On Monday, April 7th, Lance Walker from Walker Law, PLLC, will cover the Oklahoma Indian Law Update: Post-McGirt Operation in Indian Nation, including topics such as the Stigler Act and the Osage Nation lawsuit against Enel Green Power, during our Educational Luncheon at the Petroleum Alliance.

I’m excited to announce that we will be hosting a Happy Hour on Thursday, April 10th at The Jones Assembly. This will be a great opportunity to connect with colleagues and celebrate our recent accomplishments in a casual setting. Whether you’re new to OCAPL or have been with us for years, I encourage you to come out, enjoy some good drinks, and engage in conversations outside of the usual work environment.

The first Community Affairs event will be held on April 25th at Rebuilding Together. For those unfamiliar, Rebuilding Together unites volunteers to perform essential safety home repairs for low-income, elderly homeowners in the Oklahoma City metro area. By addressing urgent housing needs, Rebuilding Together exemplifies its mission to create safe homes and communities for all. Be on the lookout for more information to come.

The Girls Night Out committee is planning an event in May and has sent out an email requesting feedback on ideas and timing. Please be sure to check your emails, or feel free to reach out to Rachael Felder or Taylor Tinsley with any questions or suggestions.

Registration for the golf tournament is now open, and, once again, this year’s tournament will be limited to OCAPL members. There are various ways to sponsor, volunteer, or participate, so make sure to register early before it sells out! The tournament will be held on Monday, May 19th, at Oak Tree.

As always, the OCAPL board is looking for new ways to benefit our members. Whether it's a new format, a new location, or both, we are always exploring ways to improve our members' experiences. Our goal is to offer a variety of events throughout the year to allow more people to participate. If you have any ideas for new events, please feel free to share them with us.

Sincerely,

Clarke Richards, CPL
