OCAPL CELEBRATES 60 YEARS!

The Oklahoma City Association of Petroleum Landmen was established April 3, 1947, by 39 charter members, who met for lunch at the historic Skirvin Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City. Today, OCAPL has over 1,100 members, with 17% of the membership being comprised of women.

The “diamond” anniversary celebration of OCAPL was held at the Oklahoma History Center on Friday, May 11th, with 300+ members and their guests in attendance.

The theme for this special evening was: LEADERSHIP: PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE.

The celebration began with cocktails, followed by a buffet style dinner, program and speakers, and dancing to the “The Joe Baldwin Band” which includes several “Landmen” and a special appearance by Shane Henry.

Current OCAPL President, Kent Loeffler, was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening program, which honored Charter Members, Honorary Members, Lifetime Members, and Mentors of OCAPL members.

Additional speakers for the evening included Richard L. Sias (OCAPL President 1970), John B. Morey (OCAPL President 1972), Jack Sweeney (OCAPL President 1974 and AAPL President 1992), Jack C. Richards (OCAPL President 2001), and Michelle Webster (Next Generation Landmen Committee Co-Chair).

Awards were given to John B. Morey (Trailblazer Award), Kim Swyden and Chuck Lundeen (Mentoring Award), Michelle Webster and Tim Andrews (NGL Award).

The 60th Anniversary Committee was chaired by Barby James and Candace Robinson, OCAPL past presidents.  Other committee members were Jack Sweeney, Teresa Portwood, Marita Morris, Bill and Nancy Majors and Carolyn Bechtold.

A special thanks to Richard L. Sias for providing the wine for the evening from his Joullian Vineyard, Beau’s Wine Bin and Spirit Shoppe and Ned’s Catering, and Cyndi Lu Daniels and her staff at the Oklahoma History Center.
