It’s December, the weather is FINALLY getting cold, and we are all busy with events, Christmas parties, and family gatherings. It’s the time of year that leaves you grateful for all you have, thankful for everyone around you, and circling the mall parking lot for the 5th time searching for a spot just a little bit closer.
I love this time of year in this business because of all the parties and opportunities to see people, but also the charitable giving that goes on. The members of OCAPL are some of the most generous and this year we raised over $35,000 through all the philanthropic events hosted by our committees. Not to mention the countless volunteer hours to help these organizations. We teamed up with Russell Westbrook’s Why Not? Foundation for the 5th year in a row to serve over 850 dinners to the kids of the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma City and their families. It is personally my favorite event of the year, and not just because it’s an opportunity for me to pretend Westbrook and I are bros, but to see the excitement on the kid’s faces when they meet the Thunder star and leave with a full belly from what may be their only Thanksgiving Dinner.
This year, thanks to the entertainment committee, Sam McCurdy and Brian Carlozzi, the OCAPL Christmas Party was a huge success. Being able to have it at The Jones Assembly speaks volumes to the hard work and thought put into these events. It was an opportunity to showcase one of the hip, new venues in Oklahoma City that show the direction our city is headed. The weather was perfect, the food was great and we raised over $20,000 to benefit Infant Crisis Services and Youth Services of Oklahoma County. Partnering with them this time of year is a huge help to them, as their needs grow during the holiday months. Once again, all the credit for these great events goes to our membership and the committees who help keep them going.
The 2018 renewal period is January 1st through February 15th. You can login to your profile on the website any time after January 1st and renew. You will receive a “renewal” email on January 2nd with instructions. It’s also a good time to encourage new memberships for anyone you know who would like to get involved. Along with membership renewals, we are also taking suggestion for our educational luncheon speakers. If you have any ideas, topics or speaker suggestions, please let Clarke Richards know. The education OCAPL provides is top-notch and we hope to continue to do so with relevant topics and great speakers.
It is with great pleasure and relief that I write my last newsletter as President of OCAPL. I am passing the gavel along to Matt Beavers, who will serve this organization well. It has been an honor to serve this year and in years past, and I look forward to staying involved and being a part of what is to come in the future. Enjoy the holiday season and I hope you and your families have a very Merry Christmas.
Should you ever have suggestions, questions or concerns regarding OCAPL, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
